1. How to Restart Windows in MS DOS Mode for Windows 95 and 98 only.
- Click on the [START] button.
- Select the Shut Down menu option.
- Click on the selection: "Restart the computer in MS DOS Mode"
- Click the [Yes] button and wait for the computer to display a prompt reading something like: C\WINDOWS>
You are now in MS DOS Mode.
2. Can't Load Custom Control DLL or Invalid call to a Dynamic Link Library
Close the error message and any other programs you may be running. Restart computer in MS DOS mode and run the following commands:
In version 5.03
- CD\FMSWIN
- FIXDLL
- When you are back at the C:\fmswin prompt type EXIT.
- Click on the Start Menu then Programs and choose Instant Impact!.
- Select the "Systems Tools" folder and them Click on "FixDlls".
- Click on "Correct Conflicts". When it's complete, click on "Okay" and "Quit". Start Instant Impact! again.
This should fix the problem.
3. This file was created in a newer version of High Edit
Close the error message and any other programs you may be running. Then restart in MS DOS mode and run the following commands:
In version 5.03, click on the Start Menu then Programs and choose Instant Impact!. Select the "Systems Tools" folder and them Click on "FixDlls". Click on "Correct Conflicts". When it's complete, click on "Okay" and "Quit". Start Instant Impact! again.
- CD\FMSWIN
- FIXDLL
- When you are back at the C:\fmswin prompt type EXIT.
This should fix the problem.
4. Error 7 - Out of Memory when trying to View Farms or Loading a new Farm
Close the error message and any other programs you may be running. Then restart in MS DOS mode and run the following commands:
In version 5.03
- CD\FMSWIN
- FIXDLL
- When you are back at the C:\fmswin prompt type EXIT This should fix the problem.
- Click on the Start Menu then Programs and choose Instant Impact!.
- Select the "Systems Tools" folder and them Click on "FixDlls".
- Click on "Correct Conflicts". When it's complete, click on "Okay" and "Quit". Start Instant Impact! again.
This should fix the problem..
5. General Protection Fault in Module HTMLSHOW.DLL
If you are getting the error message: "FMS4WIN.EXE caused a General Protection Fault in Module HTMLSHOW.DLL" when trying to run Instant Impact!, do the following:
- Close the program.
- Click on the [START] button Win 95/98.
- Select the Run menu option.
- In the space to the right of the word "Open" type in : FMS4WIN.INI
- Click the [OK] button. This will display the FMS4WIN.INI file's contents.
- Hit your F3 key. On the command line type:" [MAIN]", click on find next, then click on cancel.
- Under [MAIN] Heading change VIEWER = TRUE to VIEWER = FALSE
- Click on FILE, SAVE, then FILE, EXIT
6. Error in Fmswin / FRMCampt Check CAMPAIGN
Error 3078 Couldn't find input table or query Campaign" when Opening a Farm, due to the file Campaign.mdb not properly installing. To correct it, do the following:
- First, close Instant Impact!. Before continuing, make sure you have the most current Instant Impact! install disks or CD. If you don't, obtain the Install disks or CD before continuing to the following steps:
- Erase the file c:\fmswin\Contact\Campaign.mdb
- Re-install Instant Impact!.
7. Error 3049 xxxx.mdb is corrupted or isn't a Visual Basic-format database
xxxx.mdb may be c:\fmswin\contact\history.mdb or other program database file.
This error usually indicates that the database in question has a minor corruption problem which can be easily fixed by doing the following:
- First, close Instant Impact!
- Restart Instant Impact!
- Click on the Modules Menu Option at the top of the Main Screen
- Select "Database Maintenance Module" option to run the Database Repair Utility.
- Select the Farm you were trying to open and click "Repair Selections".
- This should fix the problem.
8. Error in MainMDI Load[0]. Error Type = 53 File not found
If you are getting the error message you have recently updated your program from an older version. This can be corrected by doing the following:
- In Windows Explorer go to the FMSWIN\CONTACT directory (or folder).
- Move the files CONTACTS.MDB and CONTACTS.LDB to FMSWIN\DATABASE directory (or folder).
9. Problem in Merge Text HEGEN. Error type = 6 Overflow
This problem has been fixed in version 5.03 - best fix is to upgrade your program to latest version.
The problem occurs when using the word processor and is probably due to alphabetic characters being in the 4th place in APN field. To fix this problem do the following:
- First, close IP Word.
- From your database, select the Database Tools menu, then Remove Phrases.
- In Remove Phrases select the APN field.
- In the boxes, type in the letter "C" in the first box, "D" in the next box, "E" in the next box, and "F" in the next box.
- Now, click the OK button
This will remove the alphabetic character from the APN or tax parcel number.
10. Blank page printing after letter prints
If you are getting a blank page after your document prints, you probably have blank lines at the end of your document. To fix this problem, do the following:
- Go to end of the document (Shortcut: Ctrl+End on keyboard) and look for the end of document marker '¤'.
- Hit your backspace key to delete the extra lines at the end.
- SAVE the document.
11. Error 57, Device I/O Error- Error 53 when trying to Load a Farm
If you are getting the error message "Error 57, Device I/O error" while using Load a Farm from a disk, it is probably your computer is having problems reading the information from the diskette.
- To confirm this, try copying the files on the diskette onto your hard drive in directory
C:\fmswin\database drive using Explorer.- If you get error messages trying to copy these files in Explorer.
- The solution is to get a replacement for that diskette.
12. Error 7 "Out of Memory" - or - "String too long" when trying run Instant Impact!
Close the error message and any other programs you may be running. Then restart in MS DOS mode and run the following commands:
In version 5.03
- CD\FMSWIN
- FIXDLL
- When you are back at the C:\fmswin prompt type EXIT This should fix the problem.
- Click on the Start Menu then Programs and choose Instant Impact!.
- Select the "Systems Tools" folder and them Click on "FixDlls".
- Click on "Correct Conflicts". When it's complete, click on "Okay" and "Quit". Start Instant Impact! again.
This should fix the problem.
13. Error 53 File not found. There is possibly no LDB file ... when trying to copy farms
- Exit Instant Impact!, reopen Instant Impact! and try copying the farm or file again.
14. Load Farm from disk but can't see farm file(s)
If you DON'T see the any file names when trying to Load Farm from Disk after selecting the floppy drive, the farms may not be in a new farm format. To find out why the files are not showing up, do the following:
- Under File Name, click where it says *.dbf and change it to read *.*, hit [ENTER].
- If these files have a MDB extension, simply copy the files from you diskette to the
C:\FMSWIN\DATATBASE directory / folder.- If these files have an extension such as EXP, REL, or TXT, the files are still in the unconverted raw data format. If you have GOLD version of Instant Impact! you can use the Import Wizard to import these files into Instant Impact!. If you don't have the GOLD version, contact your title company and have them convert the farm.
15. Can't convert nonStandard Farm file: C:\FMSWIN\DATABASE\@@@$$$.DBF
If you are using Load a Farm from Disk but get the error message: "Can't convert nonStandard Farm file: C:\FMSWIN\DATABASE\@@@$$$.DBF" followed by another error message: "Error in MAIN_SCR / Load Farm From Disk. Error type = 53 File not found"
The farm you are trying Load is NOT in the standard field layout for Instant Impact!
- There are some database layouts that Instant Impact! 5.03 recognizes in the Import Wizard.
- If you have a database other than one that the Import Wizard has a Template for, you will need to have the GOLD version of Instant Impact! to be able to import this database (with its foreign field layout).
16. Loading Image from Disk but can't see files
If you are trying to Load an Image File from Disk but are unable to see the file name, verify you are following these steps:
- Make sure you have the diskette with the Image File is in the A: (or B:) drive.
Click on the File Menu Option at the top of the Main Screen. Then select "Load Image from Disk... Ctrl+P" option.
If you don't see the any file names, then click on the area just under the heading: "List files of type:" This will popup a list with the following sections:
BMP (*.bmp)
GIF (*.gif)
JPG (*.jpg)
J11 (Stellar Images)
000 (CRISnet Images)
WMF (*.wmf)
PCX (*.pcx)
TIFF (*.tif)
- Try different selections of the above list until you see the files names appear under "File Name:" Click on the file name you want to load and click [OK].
- This will copy your Image File(s) from the diskette to the images directory / folder.
NOTE: If the image file has a JPG extension on the diskette, the image will be converted to BMP extension in the images directory / folder. Otherwise, the image will be copied in the same format with the same extension as it had on the diskette.
17. What to consider when Loading Images from Disk to be used in Flyers.
Several of the predefined flyers are designed to display the images loaded into the System Setup,
User Photo and/or Company Logo.
You can use images file(s) in the System Setup's User Picture or Company Logo or to use images file(s) with the MultiMedia module to associate the image with a record.
Some are also designed to use the associated the image with records via the MultiMedia icon in any of the Managers (Farm, Contact, Listing, or Closing).
If this was a new installation, it most likely was a BAD installation. You will need to delete a file called fms4win.ini. To delete this file
- Click on Start, Find, Files or folders.
- Type fms4win.ini next to Named: then click on Find Now.
- When it finds the file, click on the file once to highlight it. Click on Edit then Delete.
- Reinstall the program.
19. Error Type 76 Path not found
The fms4win.ini file may be corrupted. Click on Start, Run and type fms4win.ini on the command line, then OK. This will open the file in Notepad. Check to be sure it has the program paths. If the paths are missing, delete the fms4win.ini file.
- To delete the file close Notepad.
- Click on Start, Find, Files or folders.
- Type fms4win.ini next to Named: then click on Find Now.
- When it finds the file, click on the file once to highlight it. Click on Edit then Delete. Reinstall the program.
20. Error 4 when printing a report
This error will appear if the report or flyer you are trying to print does not have a table object on it.
To add a table object:
- Open your database
- If it is a Report, Click on Modules then Reports & Labels
- Click on Modify Report and open the report you are getting the error.
- If it is a Flyer, Click the Flyer Icon, select the flyer and click on Modify
- The next steps are for both a Report or a Flyer
- Click on the Table icon

- Draw a box some where on your document.
- Save your Report or Flyer.
Go to File, then Exit. This will fix the error message.
21. Added appointments in scheduler and now they are missing.
This happens when the Regional Settings for the Short Date Style is incorrect.
- Click on Start, Settings then Control Panel.
- In Control Panel double click on Regional Settings.
- Be sure it reads English United States.
- Click on the Date Tab. The Short Date Style should read M/D/YYYY. Click Apply
- Once this has been changed, the appointments that were set will now show.

22. Cant Convert Non-Standard Farm File
The farm is not in a format that Instant Impact! can use.
- If the farm is from a subscribing IP FMS company such as your local title co, order the farm again, let the company know that you are using Instant Impact!
- If you have Instant Impact! Gold, you can create a template in the import wizard and import the farm.
- Send Information Products the data to be converted for a fee
23. Error in MainMDI Load [0] Error Type = 13
The Regional Settings is set to something other than English United States.
- To change the Regional Settings
- Click on Start, Settings then Control Panel.
- In Control Panel double click on Regional Settings.
- Be sure it reads English United States. Click Apply
