NOTE:

• This procedure permanently alters data in your farm. Make sure that you have a backup copy of your data before you try this procedure.

• This procedure only works with character fields - if in doubt check 'APPENDIX A' of your FMS manual for a listing of fields and field types.

PROCEDURE:

1. View the Farm, select "Global Replace" from the Misc Menu (Press F5 to get the Misc Menu).

2. Select the FIELD that you wish to fix as the field to replace.

3. When you see the prompt "Enter the value to replace 'FIELD' with:" (FIELD will be the

field name selected) type the following formula EXACTLY as shown under the

(STRTRAN(FIELDNAME, "text_to_change", "text_to_insert"))

Where:

FIELDNAME is the name of the field you are using

"text_to_change" is the text you either want to replace or eliminate.

"text_to_insert" is the text to replace "test_to_change" with.

you can leave out ,"text_to_insert" if you just want to remove text.

4. Respond with "Y" to the "Unable to validate..." and "is this expression O.K." prompts.

Examples:

Replacing the word "and' in the field FIRST with '&'"

(STRTRAN(UPPER(FIRST), " AND ", " & "))

Note the spaces before and after both "AND" and "&".

Removing dashes from the field APN

(STRTRAN(APN, "- "))

Note you do not have to include the last comma and string if you are removing text.

Replacing the word "Street' in the field SITE_ADD with 'St'"

(STRTRAN(SITE_ADD, "Street", "St"))

Removing periods from MAIL_ADD

(STRTRAN(MAIL_ADD, "."))
