Installing FMS on a Network

• Go through the normal installation - installing the program on the LAN drive of choice.
• Flag all files Sharable, ReadWrite except the following.
• Flag the following files Shareable, ReadOnly
  SYSNAMES.IPM
  *.EXE
• Create a directory on the user's workstation (suggested name: MYFARM4) and copy the following files to it:
  FMSREAD.EM Describes revision history of program
  WORKG4S.* Template for creating New Master Farm files.
  *.LBL Label files.
  *.IBL more Label files.
  FMS.PIF For running program under Windows. You may need to reset the Startup Directory field via the PIF Editor.
  QUERIES.* Queries database files.
  *.LTR MailMerge Letters.
  *.MMS Contain the margin settings, page length, etc. for MailMerge Letters.

Setting up the program to be able to find the farm databases:

The trick here is to run FMS with the /D switch from each individual user's sub-directory. This switch allows the FMS EXE to be ran from another directory, by specifying the resident directory on the command line. Since you will need to be in each user's subdirectory BEFORE starting, and you will need to change back, it is simpler to create a batch file for each user to do just that. All the batch files must reside in the original start up directory. Additionally, the path (or search drive) MUST include the directory where FMS resides.

Example:

If the original start up directory is F:\ALLUSERS, the user's directory is Q:\USERDIR, and FMS resides in F:\PROGRAMS, then the batch file would look like this:

Q:

CD\USERDIR

FMS /DF:\PROGRAMS

F:

CD\ALLUSERS
