If you try to start the FMS 5.0 program and you get the error message:
FMS50 is already running
Type 'exit' to return to the program
There are 2 possibilities.
1) You ran System Utilities from the Main Menu, and then you ran the DOS Prompt Option. So now you are back at a DOS prompt with FMS 5.0 still running in the background.
or
2) You ran System Utilities from the Main Menu, and then you ran the DOS Prompt Option. Then when you were back at a DOS prompt you rebooted your computer or your turned it off. When you came back later, turned the computer back on and tried to run FMS 5.0 again you got the error msg.
What has happened is that FMS 5.0 creates a temporary file when you shell out to DOS (use the DOS prompt option). When the program starts it checks to make sure that this temporary file does not exist. This prevents you from accidentally running FMS 5.0 within FMS 5.0 and possibly corrupting your data.
To fix this problem, first type in the word EXIT and then press enter. If you wind up back at the FMS 5.0 Main Menu, FMS 5.0 was just running in the background and was simply preventing you from running 2 sessions of FMS 5.0 simultaneously. If, however, you just get the DOS prompt back FMS 5.0 is not running and you need to delete the temporary file mentioned below.
To delete this temporary file please type the following command at the DOS prompt:
DEL C:\MYFARM5\$$$$FMS.TMP
