Setting up Windows95 for DOS printing FMS4.x and FMS 5.x

If you are running Windows95 and cannot print from any DOS application do the following…

From Start menu

  1. Choose Settings, then Printers (Usually located at the bottom of your screen, if you can't see it - press the CTRL-ESC keys at the same time)
  2. Highlight icon of printer being used (by single clicking with left mouse button).
  3. Click on highlighted icon with right mouse button to bring up this menu
  4. Select Properties
  5. Click on Details tab
  6. Click on Capture Printer Port
  7. Select appropriate Device (usually LPT1)

Windows 95 will now print from DOS applications (provided that the DOS app is sending it's data to the correct port).

Under some circumstances print jobs will not be sent to the printer until you exit out of the DOS program.

If this is the case and you desire immediate printing do the following. The trade off is that large print jobs may slow the whole system down while printing.

Click on Spool Settings

Click on Print directly to the printer, then the OK button.
